Dev Progress Update - September 2016: Missions & Game Modes

Postby Dr_Eyeball » 15 Sep 2016, 18:42

TacBF Community,

Here is a quick update on our development progress.
The next release for v3.24 will likely coincide with the next Arma 3 update next week.
Some mission updates will be released before then, hopefully this weekend.
Various mission updates by the mission developers for existing missions have already been uploaded.

Current mission development work:
The primary focus lately has been on updating the missions.
This includes: many adjustments, zone layouts changes, new bases, object placements, mounted weapon placements, plus desert Insurgents are being changed to TalibanFighters.

Another focus is on adding new missions, especially optional COOP capable missions, which still support PvP/E on both sides.
These are aimed at helping start off the servers. Once sufficient players join, then the AI can be reduced or turned off or the mission switched to a larger one.
Plus they can help provide squad team work tactics practice, at a pace that suits them.

Current coding development work:
There are various AI support functions being added, to make the AI capable missions make the AI behave more realistically (mainly slower), plus support for vehicles.
There are also various bug fixes related to hidden changes in the last Arma update which would cause bugs currently, mainly in the form of things not happening upon destruction.

Regards
TacBF Team.

AI Using vehicles? Hell yes.

Maybe limit it to light vehicles, no APCs/Tanks/Air?

It only affects the new A&D "Coop/PvPE" (currently) pre-placed AI, acting as defenders using building lookouts, static weapons and patrols.

The old AI you may have seen, try to act like players, by spawning at base, teleporting to spawn-points, then proceeding to defend or attack zones. Currently these AI will not be using vehicles. But they might soon and yes, likely would have to be somewhat limited to what they can use from the bases/FBs/field.

I think we'll see the next @TacBF update this week sometime.
It will include changes which benefit mission makers and the way missions behave.

We would also update some of the updated 3rd party mods too, like @TalibanFighters, @TFAR, @CBA (if they get updated soon, waiting...).

Some new missions are on the way too this week.

Is there a different server, as all the old ones are empty?
I saw chapysm on a server and he said tacbf is going to project reality or something? I've been away so might of missed something.

TacBF remains TacBF but with some new content and game modes, so empty servers is just a temporary side effect of long WIP :)

Yes, it has been a very quiet month, with only about 4 good sessions lately.

No, that's just nonsense talk. TacBF is not going to Project Reality, which is an abandoned unfinished mod.
TacBF far exceeds any depth and functionality that it currently has. Plus the upcoming features and missions next month (or two) will probably split TacBF off into the more tactical gamers group with objective-based missions, than currently.

Project Reality is currently being actively worked on, they have had regular test sessions and live streams etc.

Any hints as to what these new missions and features will be?

Actually, Project Reality hasn't been updated recently on their end. Yes, their code is still public and being used by other servers and being added onto by server owners, but the project its-self is basically abandoned. Their last development update(based on forums) is in 2014, http://www.realitymod.com/forum/f586-pr ... discussion

TacBF isn't moving to PR, but Frontline(another arma mod that's currently in development, and known by TacBF members cause of previous owners/devs) is infact using Project Reality framework. Right now, its a simplified, vanilla based A&D game-mode. Again, currently in development and not yet finished.

That being said, it doesn't mean TacBF is closing its servers, nor are the devs stopping development on the mod. Both Frontline and TacBF are run by different admin teams, different developers, etc. While you still see some around on forums, their focus is their own game-mode and that's what they're actively doing at this time.

This might slow down development/bug fixes on TacBF, as we've lost some of the dedicated staff we used to have, but it won't stop it. Eyeball is working consistently to keep new content, new features, new game-modes, etc.. coming to the TacBF servers and I hardly doubt he'll let this get in his way of doing what he's been doing for the past few years. Anyone looking to help him, I guarantee he's always looking for new people to help assist in bringing new things to the table.

tl;dr: TacBF is not moving to Project Reality. TacBF will continue to be updated. Eventually, we'll be back to having full servers when things work themselves out. Only thing we can do is continue to show our support to the developers and wait for things to get back to normal.
