Tactical Battlefield Installer/Updater/Launcher
v1.14.0

[DOWNLOAD!]

About:

This is the Launcher for Tactical Battlefield that lets you painlessly install the mod.
It takes care of updating the mods when required and launches the game with the right set of parameters. It will also take care of launching TeamSpeak and connecting you to the right TS server.
It also supports FaceTrackNoIR (enable "automatically start tracking on startup" in FaceTrackNoIR for an even smoother experience :)).
If needed, it will automatically install the TFR Teamspeak plugin along with its configuration files.

In short:
  • Downloads and installs all the mods needed
  • Automatically installs TeamSpeak TFR plugin
  • Ensures all the mods are up to date
  • Launches teamspeak and connects to the right TS server before starting the game.
  • Launches FaceTrackNoIR if installed.

The launcher leverages Bittorrent protocol for downloading data. Additionally, it makes use of web-seeds for users that have Bittorrent blocked or throttled by their internet provider.

When mods are updated, your client will only download the parts of the files that have changed, even if your connection in an earlier session was lost, thus highly limiting the amount of data transferred. Also, after installation/update, any superfluous files (that are not supposed to be in the directory) are removed. This does not concern Arma3Sync metadata files - they will not be removed from the directory.

In the last half year, while in Alpha version, this launcher has been downloaded over 20,000 times and has transferred over 0.1 petabytes of data!

Image Image Image

Usage:

  1. Run the launcher
  2. Press Install
  3. Go make yourself a large coffee
  4. Come back and press Play. That's it!
By default, the launcher will download Tactical Battlefield and all other required mods to Arma 3\Tactical Battlefield.
If you want to change that, read below.

If you already have Tactical Battlefield installed or have some mods already downloaded:

1) To prevent downloading the files again you can copy or move them to the Arma 3\Tactical Battlefield directory.

2) If you're an advanced user, you can try creating a symlink instead of merely copying the mod directory.

3) Another way is to change the mod directory in the options screen. If you don't want to copy and/or move mods directories, you can select your Arma 3 directory and let the launcher use and update the mods that are stored there.

Image Image Image

Notes:

After installing the Task Force Radio plugin for TeamSpeak, you will have to enable it manually in Teamspeak! A message will appear after installation to remind you.

As of now there is no possibility to declare separate directories for each mod, only a directory that will hold all the mods inside.
Setting the installation directory to a directory that you don't have write rights to will require you to run the launcher as Administrator and is not recommended.

Bugs:

Report any bugs at: bitbucket.org's Issue Tracker.
If something does not work an you don't report it, don't expect it to be fixed anytime soon!

Note: If you submit a bug on bitbucket PLEASE check that bug later. If I need some additional information to reproduce the issue and you are not there to provide it, the issue won't be fixed! (should be obvious but, unfortunately, isn't :()

Technical stuff:

The launcher is a fully fledged Bittorrent client, enhanced to be also able to remove superfluous files.
The use of Bittorrent protocol should make downloading resilient against network problems.

Your client will only download the parts of the file that have changed, thus limitimg the amount of data transferred. In the best-case scenario, we could have several data sources seeding the mod. Clients downloading the mod can also share their connection and upload data to other clients, just like with a regular Bittorrent application. Anyone can become a full mirror and help us serve the mod to users! Just keep the launcher open and it will switch to seeding mode when installation is complete! You can turn off that feature in the options screen, if you don't feel like helping everyone (but please dont! :)).
Bittorrent protocol will make sure data is not modified so it is safe from a security perspective.

Source:

The code is Open Source so if you know Python and want to contribute you're welcome!
You're free to fork it if that's what you need, although I would prefer you to contact me and cooperate together on an universal launcher instead.

1.13.0 (2017-05-15)
====================

Fixes:
------
- Changed wording to use "uploading" instead of "seeding" for people who have been living under a rock and don't know what seeding means -_-.
- Implement another way of fetching user documents directory. Fixes #223
- Correctly close and join the threadpool, preventing thread leaking (actually, not noticeable at all since the process was killed either way after 5 seconds)
- Prevent people from pointing two or more links to one mod directory.
- Better arma installation detection. Resolves #228
- Allow using a list of TS addresses in metadata.json. Resolves #241.
- Detect the opening of the Arma launcher instead of Arma 3. Resolves #243
- Fixed case where correct mod directory could be taken for an incorrect one.

Enhancements:
-------------
- Changed the presentation layer of unreachable servers (-/- instead of xx/xx)
- Added a workaround to have better unicode error reports
- Added OK button to dismissable error popups. Fixes #229
- Add a check for Arma development branch on disk. Resolves #226.
- Add a note that very low upload limits affect download speeds. Resolves #222.
- Even more verbose teamspeak error messages. Resolves #221
- Run Teamspeak directly from the executable instead of relying on URLs. Resolves #231. (this should prevent some potential errors)
- Expand the information about the exception in case of a unicode error

Other:
------
- Introducing threaded Paras (experimental).
- Increased the default timeout value when uploading torrents.
- Updated seedbox population script
- Updated false positive report template.
- Log the process name at the start of each para run.

1.12.0 (2017-03-31)
====================

Fixes:
------

Skip arma3launcher.exe completely because there are some issues with it the first time an UAC prompt is shown.
Use Teamspeak Clientquery API key to connect to Teamspeak.
Better check which torrent files are removed when updating torrents.
Fix popup error when Kivy registers several keypresses on an OK button.
Show a nice message if you don't have permissions to delete a directory when making symlinks.
Don't use check for file writability before running seeding-only syncing. (caused errors when arma was running)
Show custom message explaining the problem when you have more than 6 network interfaces.

Enhancements:
-------------

Dynamic, per-server background images.
Server listing + steam querying for player count.
Custom refresh interval possible to be set in metadata.json.
Added the possibility to set extra threads for Arma.
Try to make an educated guess for TS location if it cannot be found in the registry.
Don't retrieve metadata on mod checking restart to speed up checks after changing servers.
Let the admins dump torrents urls from the launcher.
Don't seed the launcher (or other mods) if the mod is not complete.
Add the possibility to add a whitelist IP filter

Other:
------

Do not require to restart the launcher after creating new torrents.
Automatic restart after mod upload.
Mark a mod as clean and done, after creating a torrent based on it
Made the launcher version a little more visible
Use the new (color corrected) BusyIndicator.
Changed disabled action button color to: #302f3680.

1.11.1 (2017-03-25)
====================

This *hotfix* will cause the launcher to connect to Teamspeak 3.1.3+ every time you click PLAY.
Yes, this will be fixed later but right now it's still better than plain crashing.

Fixes:
------
- Hotfix for #216. Teamspeak ClientQuery was crashing the launcher.

Enhancements:
-------------

Other:
------

1.11.0 (2017-03-17)
====================

64bit Suppport added and possibility to play with BattlEye disabled. This version is required if you want to play on 64bit (95% of you) and use TFR since the new TFR dll is not blocked by BattlEye so it has to be run with BattlEye disabled for the time being.

Fixes:
------
- Run arma through steam only when steam.exe is not already running. Otherwise run Arma3.exe directly (fixes some strange bugs)
- Don't round the status value to 100.00% if the actual value is 99.999%
- Ignore errors in decoding libtorrent info messages, which were not actually used, anyway.

Enhancements:
-------------
- 64bit Arma support
- Optional mods support
- Enabled several much requested arma parameters to be set (like Profile or Unit ID)
- Ability to connect without running BattlEye on the client
- Enable or disable TrackIR in the options menu
- Enable or disable FacetrackNoIR in the options menu
- Better error message layout + automatic copying of the message to the clipboard

Other:
------
- Moved all the settings options to a common file.
- Fixed bizarre news panel movement in TacBF launcher.

1.10.0 (2017-03-03)
====================

Fixes:
------
Workaround to prevent crash when sound cannot be initialized.
Fixed error when the Windows username contained special characters.
Retry HTTP requests in case of an exception (fixes the issues when starting a download).

Enhancements:
-------------
Added a list of currently used mods that you are using right now with the real mod location in case of using Junctions.
You can set those junctions manually and this makes the launcher recheck everything again.
Added the news box to TacBF Launcher.

Other:
------
Rename UPGRADE button to UPDATE to prevent confusion (reported by users).

1.9.0 (2017-02-19)
====================

The biggest highlight of this release is the per-server mods setting, which will now allow mod admins to have a different set of mods for different servers, like a base server with a minimal amount of mods and another one with 20GB of additional data to download in order to play the game :).
The players will not have to download mods for server #2 if they want to only play on server #1.

Fixes:
------
- Prevent the user to manually select a bad directory that will lead to a infinite loop in the file system.
- Same but with other directories that should never be selected as THE directory for a mod like "Arma 3" or "Workshop" (or others) to prevent id***s from wiping their directories.
- Don't show ETA when still in "checking pieces" state since that led to showing incorrect values.
- Improved several messages to be more clear in case of errors.
- Add a message about the lack of possibility to update a file while a steam update is taking place.

Enhancements:
-------------
- Per-server mod management. You can now have a different set of mods for server #1 and a different set for #2!
- Removed the triple bar button for connecting to a server and instead show a button with the server that is currently selected on the main screen.
- TrackIR will be launched automatically on game start if it is installed. Note: this has already been happening with FaceTrackNoIR for about a year.

Other:
------
- Management: Can now autoupload itself when the binary is signed with a code signing certificate
- Much refactoring. Really much.
- Fixed some animation stuff.
- Made status font capitalization optional by TacBF devs request.
- Show an empty progress bar if seeding.
- Updated launcher configuration sample with more comments.
- Uploader: Added customisable metadata.json file name

1.8.0 (2017-02-05)
====================

The launcher should now always know if you're connected to the right teamspeak server (previously, it was only able to know if your TeamSpeak was running or not; not if and to what server you were connected). If you're not connected or you're connected to the wrong server, it will start a connection to the right one.

There was a massive UI rewrite, mostly to allow Frontline devs to have another UI for the launcher (until now, all launchers HAD to look almost the same), but all the launchers benefited from this, actually.
This change also allowed to rewrite and to partition the files:

1) The way they were supposed to be used in Kivy (but never actually were), which resulted in several fixes, notably in with the logo not being blurry.
2) Separated into several small files instead of one big file that makes future changes easier and simpler.
3) In such a way that allows an almost completely different UI design of any launcher making use of this launcher's source code.

Also sound was added when hovering and clicking buttons. Hopefully in a quiet, non intrusive way. Should be just enough to be heard and not bother people. The sound volume and samples may be changed if they are deemed too loud or inapropriate (need feedback for this).

Many changes were done to the administration part of the launcher allowing now to upload updated mods directly from the launcher.

Fixes:
------

* The logo is no more blurred after all those years! (yes, I know, you have never noticed :P)
* Fixed the loading animation for TacBF after all those years! (you might have noticed this one ;)
* Cannot "unclick" mod seeding type anymore. They work like real radio buttons from now on!

Enhancements:
-------------

* Scoff id***s who select the Arma3 directory as THE directory for @somemod by showing them a message saying they are st*p*d (well... not really using those words, but that's the meaning :P).
* Teamspeak Client Query implementation for querying TS state.
* Total UI overhaul. Most UI placement remade from scratch (even though they look the same) but in the right way, this time. This will allow for easier changes in the future.
* New UI for Frontline launcher.
* Added button clicking and hovering sound.
* Better performance with news window rolling in.
* Don't show @ characters in the downloaded mods list.
* Slightly better widgets in the settings screen.
* Added button to open the mods location in settings screen.

Other:
------

* Checking button with ellipsis now.
* UI file launcher.kv split to several kv files to simplify changes and use by multiple launchers.
* Reimplemented the multiple launchers building process.
* Simplified and prettified both launcher.spec and the generated exe.

1.7.1 (2017-01-30)
====================

Fixes:
------
Hotfix: Fix issue with inadvertent file change while checking for writability.

1.7.0 (2017-01-29)
====================

The highlights for this release are Teamspeak 3.1 support (with their new places to store the TFR plugin) and preventing installing if file permissions are badly set (and would cause an installation error anyway). Other than that there have been lots of changes to fix small bugs that have hopefully not been noticed by the majority of the players.

Fixes:
------

Fix compatibility with Teamspeak 3.1.
Added .ts3_plugin files checking to prevent issues with badly packed Teamspeak plugins.
Disabled options button until first check of mods is done to prevent glitches.

Enhancements:
-------------

Using another, hopefully better, registry key to search for TS installations.
Give a more precise message when Steam requires administrator rights to be run.
Check if every file is writable before starting the synchronization. Show a nice error message in case of permissions errors.

Other:
------

Using Kivy 1.9.2-dev instead of a year-old 1.9.1 (probably less bugs).
Formatted debug logs.
Teamspeak installation failure is not critical anymore
Refactored installing the TS3 plugin.
Use pyinstaller.exe instead of pyinstaller-script which may not exist
Tests cleanup. Removed custom path from arma module.
Launcher should be more responsive. Sped up the tests as well.
Fix of buttons highlighting for Kivy 1.9.2.

1.6.0 (2017-01-15)
====================

Fixes:
------
Show hidden files. Prevents hiding the !Workshop directory in the file browser.
Check directories selected for writability.
Files integrity checks are now case-insensitive, just like the Windows File System.
Creating junctions now works with unicode characters.

Enhancements:
-------------
Pseudo-fuzzy name compare for missing mods, meaning "Kunduz, Afghanistan" (note the comma character) is recognized if it's already on disk but without the comma in the directory name.
Use tkinter filebrowser instead of the kivy-native one. Gives a better windows look.

Other:
------
Formatted debug logs to look better.

1.5.0 (2016-11-19)
====================

In this release, you can now select a particular directory for a missing mod, even when the directory's name is completely different from what the launcher expects. Handy if you want to use CUP or RHS mods that have different folder names in PWS and in when downloaded manually!

Fixes:
------
Fixed Frontline Icon. Thanks Leon!

Enhancements:
-------------
Show list of mods and allow the user to select a directory for them.
Updated urls in configs for the launchers.

Other:
------
Tiny bit better logging

1.4.0 (2016-10-15)
====================

After a **massive** code refactoring, you can now select custom locations to be searched for already installed mods so you don't have to re-downlad everything. Yay RHS! Yay CUP! :)
Also, the executable is now digitally signed with a Code Signing certificate.

Fixes:
------
Fixed errors with the ||| box being shown when it should not.

Enhancements:
-------------
The executables are now digitally signed with a Code Signing certificate! :)
If some mods are missing, ask to select a directory to search it for those mods on disk (handy for people storing their mods in custom locations).
Search in Arma 3 directory for mods first. Then ask.
Added an optional news window.
Now every directory is checked prior to running the torrent synchronisation.

Other:
------
**Massive** rewrite and refactoring of code.
Implemented better message passing between processes.

1.3.0 (2016-09-24)
====================

This time the most prominent changes are the automatic installation of `.ts3_plugin` files instead of relying on hardcoded hooks inside the launcher (for TFR and all the TFR-like mods!).
Also, the launcher will now search inside your `Arma 3` directory for mods that are already installed and ask you if you want to re-use them instead of downloading everything. Really nice if you don't want to re-download those 20GB of CUP and RHS mods you already downloaded.

Workshop is also supported as you should have a directory called `!Workshop` in your `Arma 3` directory, that contains everything you have downloaded with the Steam Workshop.

Fixes:
------
Web seeds were badly created with the launcher. (dev mode)

Enhancements:
-------------
Find mods that have already been downloaded to `Arma 3` directory and use them!
Nice (I hope! :)) message box that lets you use or copy the mod.
Automatically install teamspeak plugins from `.ts3_plugin` files instead of relying on artificial hooks.
Removed TFR useconfig code because it was not used anymore.
Removed requirement to enable the plugin in TS with the upcoming TFR 0.9.12 (not needed anymore)

Other:
------
Multilauncher support (generate the launcher for multiple games from the same codebase)

1.2.4 (2016-09-11)
====================
Fixes:
------
Fixed seeding issue when there was only one mod in metadata.json.
Fixed issue with web-seeds being badly created.
Automatic fix for "Arma 3 not installed message" (because people cannot into English and "Click here to fix" is too hard for them :-|)

Enhancements:
-------------
Dumb down the error messages. Display what exactly failed during the error.
Do not show messages suggesting the launcher is at fault for issues caused by problems on the server.
Don't allow running the game if BI Arma3 launcher is running because it will interfere with launching the game.
Ensure TeamSpeak files really exist inside the installation directory (happens on bad TS installs).

Other:
------
Allow the teamspeak url to be customized inside metadata.json
Do not remove contents of NTFS Junctions and Symlinks. Remove the links, instead
Allow passing the password as a parameter in metadata.json
Larger button for server selection.
Create torrent for the launcher as well, while mass creating torrents.

1.2.2 (2016-08-11)
====================
Enhancements:
-------------
Ensure the path to the download location can be created prior to starting the download.

Fixes:
------
Use ts3.tacbf.com instead of tacbf.ts3dns.com to connect to teamspeak.

1.2.1 (2016-07-21)
====================
Enhancements:
-------------
Do not fail when TFR files do not contain a userconfig directory.

1.2.0 (2016-07-18)
====================
Fixes:
------
Fixed a potential issue with interprocess communication (pipes)
Fixed an issue where synced mods were not recognized as synced.
Prevent errors when the metadata file (describing synced state) got truncated for some reason.

Enhancements:
-------------
Pressing play will automatically connect you to EU#1 server.
Added button to select the server to connect to or to launch Arma the old way.
Filechooser: treat empty selection as selecting the old directory again.

Other:
------
Bumped python version.
Bumped Kivy to 1.9.1.
Ported fixes to filechooser.
Added devmode key to disable running TS on pressing play.
Added the possibility to create torrents directly in the launcher, for developers.
Ignore whitelisted files when creating the torrents.

1.1.2 (2016-06-13)
====================
Enhancements:
-------------
Better message for Arma 3 not installed issue. Also added a one-click fix for that issue.

1.1.1 (2016-06-08)
====================
Fixes:
------
Fixed an issue where in some circumstances errors were discarded resulting in the Install/Play button not being shown.

Enhancements:
-------------
Better protection against read-only files in mod directories.
Added an alternate location of Arma 3 registry key that allows for a better (?) Arma 3 location detection.

Other:
------
Thanks to XaPeK for helping troubleshooting the issue with Arma 3 registry keys.

1.1 (2016-05-22)
====================
Fixes:
------
Fixed the error when a running teamspeak instance was not correctly detected.
Removed "Placeholder" text that was shown under some circumstances.
Wait until TeamSpeak is closed to proceed with TFR installation.

Enhancements:
-------------
Automatically run FaceTrackNoIR if installed.
Show an unclosable window in case TS is not installed (because people don't read :()

Other:
------
Better wording for TFR installation message.
Be more verbose when waiting for Administrator permissions.

1.0 (2016-04-07)
====================
First non-alpha release.

Changelog for Alpha versions up to 1.0.

Love the new layout for it.
Use it over any other programs to keep my TacBF updated, haven't had any problems yet.

Should add an option to switch between AiA Full and AiA Lite. Had to switch to full when using the launcher, but I don't mind tbh. Just deleted the lite, lol.
Maybe an option to auto-launch/install TS3 and join our teamspeak on launching the game too. Not required, but optional.

Either way, good work, keep it up. This makes it so much easier for the new players compared to using Arma3Sync or PwS or some other mod-loaders.

C'est la vie, adios, good riddance, f*** you.

Umm... but that's what it already does! Read the description again :).
Remember that while the launcher was in alpha, numerous improvements have been implemented so what it was doing half a year ago is not the same as what it can do now!

I can't install TS3 because their licence forbids automatic download from their servers. I'm doing what I can, which is giving the user a link to the download page.

All good, haven't used it to actually launch the game since I use the arma launcher cause of launch parameters.
Looking good though

After I download the launcher, my virus scanner (avast, program version: 11.2.2261, virus definitions version: 160411-0, basically all up-to-date) blocked it from running and gave me this notification:

URL: https://bbuseruploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ ... 0wj7lzQ2p9

Infection: Win32:Malware-gen

Process: C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe

please fix as this is refraining me from installing/playing
